adult Glaucous x Glaucous-winged Gull
Fig 1) From a distance this gull seemed like a Glaucous Gull. Closer inspection revealed gray scalloping in the primaries, a dark eye, a rather thick bill with a large gonydeal angle and a dark mark in it, and smudging on the breast that resembled Glaucous-winged. The mantle also seemed too dark for Glaucous. February 2, 2013. Davis, California. Photo by Steve Hampton.

Fig 2) This bird is very similar to the one above, with gray scalloping in white primaries. Again, the dark eye and large gonydeal angle are reminiscent of Glaucous-winged Gull. March 10, 2012. San Leandro, California. Photo by Noah Arthur.
