second cycle Glaucous x Glaucous-winged Gull

Figs 1 and 2) This bird is advanced second cycle, molting into third cycle. The primaries rule out pure Glaucous, and the dark eye at this late date make Glaucous x Herring (Nelson's) unlikely-- plus, we'd like to see darker outer primaries relative to the inner primaries. The dark eye suggests Glaucous-winged influence. Pure Glaucous-winged is possible, but the very pink bill base, straight bill with little gonydeal angle, and pale shadows inside the primaries all suggest Glaucous influence.
